CCOF certified retailer Whole Foods Market is in the final countdown for selecting recipients of their Small Producer Grant. Small Producer Grant winners will get the opportunity to receive donations as part of Whole Foods Market's "5% Day" on June 10 when 5% of that day's net sales are donated. The national retailer expects to award about $5,000 to 40 local makers through this program. Recipients can use the money to buy ingredients, put a down payment on a delivery vehicle, or develop in any other way they see fit. The CCOF Foundation is excited to re-open applications for the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund in 2015. Last year, CCOF members invested in the CCOF Foundation and the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund. By partnering with organic sector business leaders, the fund addresses the need for new organic producers through investing in organic agriculture education. The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) recently announced an estimated $10 million in competitive grant funding to provide financial assistance to agricultural operations for implementation of water conservation measures that result in increased water efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
