Down 2 Earth Farms is a 143.5 acre former dairy farm 18 miles north of Durham, NC, with 100 acres managed under a Forest Steward Plan, 30 acres suitable for farming and 5 acres currently in production of organically grown vegetables and fruits. The farm infrastructure, built in 2011-2012, includes a 4.5 acre irrigation pond, drip irrigation system, 54′ x 94′ barn with walk in coolers, a greenhouse, 8.5 acres fenced for row crop production, and 10.5 additional acres being readied with cover crops. The farm produces over 80 varieties of annual vegetables, blueberries, asparagus and shiitake mushrooms. Down 2 Earth Farms sells in local farmer’s markets, to local aggregator/delivery services and to an organic wholesaler.
