The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) part 2 is open for applications<\/a> only through October 12, 2021<\/strong>, so if you\u2019ve been thinking about applying, now is the time.<\/p>\n

The original CFAP program has been expanded to include numerous specialty crops and types of livestock as eligible commodities<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The calculation for CFAP 2 payments for commodities is based on the total sales that the farmer had in 2018 or 2019 (or, if the farmer began farming in 2020, then year 2020). When applying, first select the year you want to use as the basis. Once a year is selected, payment rates are based on total sales. For sales up to $49,999, CFAP 2 payments will be 10.6% of those sales. For sales that are $50k-$99,999, the rate is 9.9%; $100k-$499,999, the rate is 9.7%; etc.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An example: If a farmer\u2019s 2019 sales of eligible commodities totaled $75,000, the CFAP 2 payment would be calculated as [$49,999 times 10.6%] plus [$25,001 times 9.9 %], for a total payment of $7,775.<\/p>\n

The Farmers\u2019 Legal Action Group<\/a> has released an updated guide to CFAP 2<\/a> with detailed information on the program that will answer many grower\u2019s questions.<\/p>\n

An additional COVID-19 support program, the Pandemic Response and Safety (PRS) <\/a>Grant Program, will provide grants to small businesses in certain commodity areas, farmers markets, and small specialty crop producers significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

PRS was originally schttps:\/\/ccof1.sharepoint.com\/_layouts\/15\/sharepoint.aspx?heduled to be open for applications in September; USDA now expects to open the program in early October<\/strong> and to have a 45-day application period.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Potential PRS applicants can check their eligibility<\/a> and register for a DUNS number<\/a> now to avoid delays once the program is open for applications.<\/p>\n
