TECHNIQUES AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EFFECTIVE SOIL, WATER AND PESTICIDE RESIDUE TESTING

This year, we are pleased to offer a continuation of last year's Day 2 workshop: "Soil & Water Testing Basics." Given the success of the workshop and high level of interest in this topic, we have decided to go even more in depth to offer PCAs, CCAs and growers added skills for assessing soil and water quality.

A one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn essential monitoring skills from industry experts!

The workshop will include hands-on sampling techniques and instruction on how best to interpret soil, tissue and water reports. PLUS, we will use this year's workshop to cover a topic of growing interest and concern in commercial agriculture: MRLs (maximum residue levels for pesticides). Understanding MRLs and how to assess them is particularly important for those seeking to export their produce to countries which monitor MRLs. MRLs are increasingly used as a food safety parameter. This year's workshop will cover MRL expectations of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized auditing schemes, pesticide SOPs (standard operating procedures), the important role of advisors and growers regarding spray applications, how to read MRL test results, and what it means when MRL exceeds country of export limits.

8:00 a.m. Soil and Tissue Sampling, Analysis and Monitoring for PCAs, CCAs, and Growers
Ben Nydam, Consultant, Irrigation Specialist & Certified Crop Advisor, Dellavalle Laboratory, Inc.

9:15 a.m. Testing and Evaluation of Water Quality in Agriculture

10:30 a.m. Break

10:45 a.m. Understanding Pesticide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs)

  • Enrique Urrutia, Audit Technical Manager, Primus Labs
  • Sonny Pulido, Audit Technical Assistant Manager, Primus Labs
