Fourth Annual Organic Farming and Food Conference
Chico, CA October 11, 2006 - California State University Chico will host the 4th Annual Organic Farming and Food Conference on November 2 and 3 at the Bell Memorial Union. Initiated in 2003, the Organic Conference is part of the CSU, Chico Sustainability Conference November 2 – 5.
The Sustainability Conference is sponsored by CSU, Chico and Butte College and is free to the public. To register for any of the four days, including the Organic Farming and Food Conference, visit www.csuchico.edu/sustainablefuture/events/registration.shtml.
The Organic Farming and Food Conference breakout sessions are sponsored by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, CCOF Foundation Going Organic Project (funded by the California State Water Board), and the Chico Food Network. The November 2nd session focuses on ‘Linking Nutrition and Agriculture for a Sustainable Future.’ The session will include presentations by organic farmers, nutritionists, and schools which cater to local market farmers.
The November 3rd session focuses on ‘Forage and Feed Production for Organic Livestock,’ including information on organic certification, livestock production, dairy production, forages, alfalfa, and organic pasture management. Sessions at the Sustainability Conference on November 4th will focus on farmland preservation, tourism, and conservation easements. The Saturday sessions will be followed by a Real Food Dinner at 6:00 p.m. at Grilla Bites, Garden Villa located at 196 Cohasset Rd, Chico. The dinner is sponsored by the Chico Food Network, and tickets are available at www.chicofoodnetwork.org.
