After at least two extensions for processed organic products entering Korea, it has become clear that the Korean government will enforce its regulation requiring certification to Korean standards effective January 1, 2014. Fresh products are already subject to this requirement.

Organic processed products that clear customs prior to January 1, 2014, will reportedly continue to be recognized as organic in Korea.

We are working diligently with the Foreign Agriculture Service, Organic Trade Association, National Organic Program, and others to explore solutions. We are pleased to see all parties positively engaged and are hopeful a resolution such as an equivalency agreement or other mitigation measure will be reached sometime in 2014 or 2015.

In the interim, CCOF is actively exploring options for obtaining certification to the Korean standards for U.S. exporters and their suppliers.
