Bricmont Hardship Assistance Fund - Direct Financial Assistance for Organic Producers

Each year, the CCOF Foundation offers direct financial assistance for organic producers who experience loss due to hardship via the Bricmont Hardship Assistance Fund. These hardships include natural disasters such as flood, freeze, fire, drought, and invasive pests, and personal emergencies. Since the Fund’s inception in 2007, the CCOF Foundation has distributed $129,438 to 159 organic producers.

2017 was extremely challenging for agricultural producers across the United States. The hurricanes that struck Florida and Texas and the wildfires in California had a tremendous impact on organic producers. With the increase in the duration and severity of extreme weather events, there is tremendous need for hardship assistance.

Despite the hardships experienced by organic farmers and producers this year, CCOF would like to acknowledge the tremendous strength and resilience of its members. Many lost their operations, not to mention their homes and possessions. And yet, their attitudes remain positive and they continue to develop creative solutions to recover and resume operations. The CCOF Foundation and our partners—Dr. Bronner’s, Richard Siegel Law Offices, the Downing Family Fund, and the Natural Resources Group—were able to award $30,000 in December 2017 to assist these operations in their recovery. CCOF will continue to support the organic community in any way we can.

We extend our most sincere thanks to our funding partners who contributed to the Bricmont Hardship Assistance Fund and offer our best wishes for a speedy recovery to all the organic farmers and their communities who were impacted by natural disaster and hardship this past year.

We wish you the best in the New Year!
