CCOF at Organic Workshop in Shasta County

The Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District, in collaboration with the Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner, is hosting a workshop that focuses on the regulations of and resources for organic production in Shasta County. CCOF will be there! Join us and other speakers, including:

  • Mike Darrow, Agricultural & Standards Investigator at the Shasta County Department of Agriculture, will review the regulatory requirements associated with using pesticides approved for organic operations.
  • Peter Bonkrude, District Manager of the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District, will introduce integrated vector control approach and pesticides used to control larval and adult mosquitoes in organic operations.
  • Kelsey Maben, CCOF Grower and Livestock Certification Specialist, will give a Go Organic! presentation detailing the steps necessary to begin organic farming or transition an existing operation towards organic certification.
  • Larry Forero, Ph.D., Director of University of California Cooperative Extension Shasta County Office, will demonstrate the procedures of soil testing and address the interpretation of testing results.
  • Robert Bailey, Manager of National Programs, Field Operations, USDA-APHIS-PPQ, will introduce different sources and application procedures for organic farmers to apply for financial assistance (grants, loans, etc.) in purchasing needed capital equipment.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Shasta County Mosquito Abetment Program building at 19200 Latona Road, Anderson, CA 95007.
