Future Organic Farmer Grants Open for 2015

The CCOF Foundation is excited to re-open applications for the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund in 2015. Partnering again with the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom and the National FFA (Future Farmers of America), as well as hosting our own granting process, the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund will be doubling our grants this year, giving away a total of $100,000 in 2015! Twenty $2,500 grants will go to support people looking to attend programs in higher and vocational education programs focusing on organic agriculture. We are excited to support more people in their quest to learn about organic agriculture, such as one of last year’s recipients, Sarah Spear, who is pursuing a Sustainable Food and Bioenergy Systems/Agroecology at Montana State University. After completing her studies at Montana State University she plans to contribute to the agricultural field by owning and/or managing an organic farm.

The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom is the largest network of Kindergarten through Eighth grade educators in California. Together with their state-based “Ag in the Classroom” national affiliate organizations, the combined network reaches millions of children in dozens of states across the country. The CCOF Foundation will again be working with the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, this year we will give away twenty one grants of $1,000 to certified K-8 teachers integrating organic agricultural projects into their classroom. Grants last year supported organic garden projects, organic seed saving libraries, and kids learning to graft organic trees!

The CCOF Foundation is also pleased to be sponsoring organic Supervised Agricultural Experience projects through the national FFA. Twenty grants of $1,000 will be available for 7-12 grade students throughout the country to complete agricultural projects. Last year’s grant recipients raised organic hogs for sale, created organic plant start businesses, and tested field water run-off from organic and conventional farms.

Please consider applying for one of our Future Organic Farmer Grants, and share with friends and family! Applications for K-8 and Higher & Vocational Education grants open April 10, and are due May 15, 2015. FFA applications open September 1, and are due November 16, 2015.

This fund is made possible through contributions from UNFI Foundation, Driscoll’s, the National Cooperative Grocers Association, Clif Bar Family Foundation, Lauren & Eric Schiermeyer, Organic Valley, and CCOF.
