GLOBALG.A.P. Capacity Building & Farm Assurer Workshop - HPSS v1.1

GLOBALG.A.P. is pleased to announce the publication of the Harmonized Produce Safety Standard (HPSS) v1.1. The HPSS offers a food safety and farm assurance solution for the unique needs of the North American marketplace. HPSS is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and accepted by many of the largest retailers in North America and beyond.

HPSS also aligns with the United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The GLOBALG.A.P. HPSS includes verbatim the Produce GAP Harmonization Initiative's Harmonized Standards. The Initiative's Technical Working Group has compared its Harmonized Standards to the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and completed an update to cover the Produce Safety Rule’s requirements in the Harmonized Standards v1.1.

The GLOBALG.A.P. HPSS v1.1 will aid producers in identifying FSMA requirements that must be addressed at the farm level. The HPSS v1.1 certificate can be provided to retailers and value-chain participants as evidence of third-party verified producer’s efforts toward FSMA implementation. The HPSS v1.1 certificate is not an assurance or guarantee of FSMA compliance, as legal compliance can only be determined by a regulatory authority, such as the FDA.
