Meet College Prep Elementary & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

Since 2014, the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund has partnered with the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom to administer the Look at Agriculture…Organically! grant program for K-8 teachers who teach their students about organic in the classroom. Each week, visit our blog to hear from the teachers who received Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund grants for their schools about the projects they funded.

College Prep Elementary
St. Paul, Minnesota

The goal of our project was to expose five- and six-year-old kindergarten students to different varieties of organic fruits and vegetables. Many of our students are English Language Learners and have never seen most fruits and vegetables. During this school year we had successful tastings for a large variety of different fruits and vegetables. Many students tasted different foods that they had never had before.

By using our kindergarten USDA nutrition books and having these fruit and vegetable tastings, we successfully completed our goal to have students learn and experience the benefits of healthy organic options. The students were excited to eat these healthy foods. We hope that in the future they will be more likely to make healthy choices because of this experience.

Thank you to College Prep Elementary for sharing your organic project!

Please join us in congratulating the recipients of the CCOF Foundation’s Future Organic Farmer Grants.
