Meet Isaac Watkins & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

Since 2014, the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund has partnered with the National FFA Organization to give grants to high school students who are interested in conducting organic Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. In collaboration with an FFA advisor, these students design organic agricultural projects to conduct over the course of a year. Students are challenged to involve other students, mentors, and members of their community to ensure their project’s success. Visit our blog each week to read about these future organic farmers’ SAE projects in their own words.

My FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) will be selling organic heirloom starts—including numerous varieties of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, basil, and others—to people in our area, as an alternative to what is commercially sold to consumers at large national retailers. However, I need a complete greenhouse for my SAE. Our farm has everything in place for one: electricity, water, and frames. I only need to install plastic, end walls, and build tables for seed trays. With a completed greenhouse I will be able to get seeds in soil well before the last frost and offer healthy established plants to customers.
Congratulations Isaac!
