Meet Jacob Schrieber & Get Involved with the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund

Since 2014, the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund has partnered with the National FFA Organization to give grants to high school students who are interested in conducting organic Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. In collaboration with an FFA advisor, these students design organic agricultural projects to conduct over the course of a year. Students are challenged to involve other students, mentors, and members of their community to ensure their project’s success. Visit our blog each week to read about these future organic farmers’ SAE projects in their own words.

My plan for my FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project is to expand my organic beef herd. I now have two bred cows and two six-month-old calves, which run with my father's organic beef. I want to purchase a registered Black Angus bull to breed my Hereford cattle, which will give me the benefit of heterosis as I work towards an all crossbred commercial organic herd. My cattle are on grass all summer with salt and mineral blocks. They get certified organic ground corn and corn silage in the winter from an organic crop farm thirty miles away. Our farm is all organic and all pasture. My father's support will help sustain this SAE.
Congratulations Jacob!
