Meet Rachel Stanley: A CCOF Foundation Future Organic Farmer

Since 2014, the Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund has partnered with the National FFA Organization to give grants to high school students who are interested in conducting organic Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. In collaboration with an FFA advisor, these students design organic agricultural projects to conduct over the course of a year. Students are challenged to involve other students, mentors, and members of their community to ensure their project’s success. Visit our blog each week to read about these future organic farmers’ SAE projects in their own words.

Rachel Stanley

I am passionate about urban agriculture and have a great support system as a result of my internship with Trevecca Nazarene University's Urban Farm. With my current area of land, I am hoping to research, design, plant, and manage an organic edible landscape based on permaculture principles. I plan on raising chickens, and building and planting an herb spiral with plants like pineapple mint and chives. I also plan on planting an organic vegetable garden that will have a range of vegetables, including corn, carrots, chard, cucumber, basil, beans, and lettuce. My goal is to do everything with the intention of keeping everything organic.

Congratulations Rachel!
