The meeting is free of charge and will include lunch for onsite participants courtesy of CCOF and the University of California Cooperative Extension Entomology Program.

The meeting will also be broadcast as a webinar, allowing remote participants the ability to hear all presentations and interact with the speakers. The link for the webinar will be emailed to registrants.

The Bagrada bug meeting will provide an overview of Bagrada bug biology, distribution, host range, and control strategies, including research findings and grower strategies for managing the pest. While the emphasis will be on organic management, conventional management will also be discussed.

The meeting will feature a farmer panel that will discuss what has and hasn’t worked in controlling the pest. CCOF-certified growers Grant Brians of Heirloom Organic Gardens, Phil Foster of Foster Ranch—Pinnacle Brand, and Ramy Colfer with Earthbound Farm will be on the panel along with Greg Mirassou of Crop Care Services.

Scientists from California, Arizona, and Mississippi will join Cooperative Extension researchers to discuss the biology and characteristics of Bagrada bug and potential control strategies. Speakers will include Shimat Joseph, UC Cooperative Extension; Larry Godfrey, UC Davis; John Palumbo, University of Arizona; Tom Perring, UC Riverside; and Walker Jones, USDA-ARS, the nation's top expert on biological control of Bagrada bug.
