The UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology is excited to announce that we are actively seeking a new Community and Residential Life Coordinator to help usher in our re-envisioned Apprenticeship Program and new Short Course series. We are excited to grow our team, and would like your help reaching as many people as possible who might be interested in this position. With the residential Apprenticeship carefully designed to expand accessibility and relevance for a wide array of learners, we look forward to welcoming back growers, land stewards and food system change makers as they look to build their skills.
The Apprenticeship Program will be offered twice per year in a 10 week format. The program will focus on building participant’s baseline knowledge in soil health management, crop production, and food system change. We will also offer a series of advanced level Short Courses where seasoned learners will be able to dive deeply into topics such as seedling production, soil health, irrigation management and seed sovereignty.
The mission of the UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology is to advance agroecology and equitable food systems through experiential education, participatory research, agricultural extension, and public service. The Center and the Apprenticeship have a deep commitment to growing the next generation of farmers and community leaders that will contribute to manifesting a just and equitable world through the common thread of food. The Community and Residential Life Coordinator will be instrumental in shaping the tenor and direction of programming, and will directly impact the growth and development of equity oriented farmers, gardeners, educators, and food system change activists.
The Community and Residential Life Coordinator will collaborate with farm and garden managers, instructors, other CASFS staff to support student success by creating the conditions for an open and communicative residential community that will, in turn, improve learning outcomes for program participants. The Community and Residential Life Coordinator will also work closely with the Apprenticeship and Short Course Coordinator to create, assess and continuously refine a robust curriculum and daily experience where all participants can thrive, recognize their agency in the food system, expand their capacity to grow food, care for the land, to give back to their communities and build a just food system.
We are seeking a dynamic leader with a background in advising and counseling techniques, facilitation, managing residential programs, coalition building and program evaluation. This person will support divergent audiences guided by the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.We are looking for someone with deep knowledge in building equity oriented curriculum and prioritizing meeting the needs of diverse learner communities.
