Integrated Pest Management Intern

The Presidio Trust is seeking an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Intern to serve as a key member of our IPM team. The Presidio is a new kind of national park. It is home to the spectacular vistas, nature and programs that visitors would expect as well as a community of residents and organizations who bring renewed vitality and purpose to this former military post. Our ideal candidate is an individual who wants to help ensure pest management in the Presidio’s landscapes and buildings is done in such a manner as to maintain a healthy ecosystem that protects park visitors, residents, wildlife, water, and other natural resources. Working closely with and being mentored by the Integrated Pest Management Program Specialist, this internship includes pest monitoring and pest management field trials in various programs including Native Habitat, Forest, Waste Reduction, Designed Landscape, Presidio Golf Course, Community Gardens and the Presidio Nursery. If you love the outdoors and want to keep it pest-free by learning how to perform field restoration activities with a diverse group of people, this internship is for you.


  • Assist in insect and plant pathogen monitoring programs.
  • Assist in field trials to evaluate least-toxic pest management methods.
  • Lead, teach and motivate volunteers during weekly volunteer programs.
  • Conduct and present an independent project - determined by program priorities and intern’s interest.
  • Participate in ecological restoration.
  • Participate in Presidio Trust public events and programs.


  • Ability to work independently in a motivated manner, with good organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable working both outdoors and indoors
  • Desire to work with a diverse group of people with different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, ages, and viewpoints
  • Enthusiasm for engaging and leading the community, including volunteers
  • Willingness to perform lab work.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work safely with gardening tools.
