The San Luis Obispo Kompogas facility converts municipal organic solid waste into high grade compost, liquid soil amendment, and carbon neutral biogas. Through a controlled 14-day multistage process at a thermophilic temperature of 131 degrees, food waste is converted into compost for agricultural use and carbon-neutral biogas for electricity production. The facility does all this indoors with no runoff while recovering energy in the process. At full capacity, the plant is designed to generate 6.2 million kW/h annually, which is more than enough to power the facility and send excess electricity into the grid. More than ten years in planning the facility demonstrates an environmentally conscious approach to landfill methane gas reduction and waste management.

RESCHEDULED for April 10, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Kompogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant located at 4300 Old Santa Fe Road in San Luis Obispo, California.

This is a private tour for CCOF members only. It will be a fantastic educational and eye-opening experience.

The CCOF San Luis Obispo Chapter meeting will be held afterwards at 5:00 p.m. at Pizza Republic, 3810 Broad St., San Luis Obispo in the Marigold Shopping Center. Pizza is free for members. The meeting will include an election for chapter board representative and officers.
