Makshya Tolbert lo comprob\u00f3 por primera vez cuando estudiaba la intersecci\u00f3n entre la poes\u00eda de la naturaleza y la historia de la raza negra, y quer\u00eda escribir poemas que expresaran la intimidad entre ambas. Tolbert empez\u00f3 a aprender a cultivar alimentos en las granjas y jardines del campus y se sinti\u00f3 con fuerzas para escribir sobre sus experiencias. Estaba ansiosa por llenar el vac\u00edo de las agricultoras de color, esforz\u00e1ndose por reafirmar nuestros papeles multidimensionales en el medio ambiente. Desde entonces, Tolbert ha conocido a agricultores, ganaderos, apicultores y excursionistas negros, todos ellos manifestaciones cotidianas de lo que significa cuidar de cerca la tierra. Por \u00faltimo, la agricultura le ha ense\u00f1ado a amar el trabajo con las manos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lo que empez\u00f3 con la agricultura org\u00e1nica en Stanford ha evolucionado hasta verse a s\u00ed misma como cocinera y alfarera que se siente m\u00e1s capacitada cuando sus manos calzan, mezclan, amasan y tallan.
