A medida que los agricultores de la regi\u00f3n de la Costa Central se enfrentan a una mayor regulaci\u00f3n de los vertidos de nitr\u00f3geno de sus explotaciones, necesitan nuevas formas de capturar el exceso de nitr\u00f3geno y reducir la erosi\u00f3n. Aunque el cultivo de invierno es una forma muy eficaz de recuperar el nitrato del suelo y evitar la lixiviaci\u00f3n, la necesidad de una gesti\u00f3n intensiva de los residuos puede disuadir a los agricultores de utilizar esta estrategia.<\/p>\n

Un investigador org\u00e1nico del Servicio de Investigaci\u00f3n Agr\u00edcola del USDA, Eric Brennan, de Salinas, est\u00e1 estudiando un m\u00e9todo que consiste en plantar cultivos de cobertura en los surcos entre bancales. Esta pr\u00e1ctica aporta muchos beneficios, como la disminuci\u00f3n de la erosi\u00f3n del suelo y la p\u00e9rdida de nutrientes, la mejora de la calidad del agua receptora y el aumento de la infiltraci\u00f3n en las aguas subterr\u00e1neas, lo que recarga los acu\u00edferos.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Los agricultores org\u00e1nicos certificados por el CCOF Javier Zamora, de JSM Organics, y Roy Fuentes, de Fuentes Berry Farms, ser\u00e1n los ponentes destacados de un seminario web que tendr\u00e1 lugar el 16 de septiembre y en el que se ofrecer\u00e1 m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n sobre esta estrategia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Los organizadores del seminario web se\u00f1alan que se trata de un tema oportuno porque ahora es un buen momento para tomar decisiones de siembra antes de que lleguen las tormentas invernales.<\/p>\n
