CCOF Hosts Webinar on Methods for Teaching Organic Farming and Gardening

Join farmer-educator Christof Bernau from the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) at UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday, February 24, from 12-1 p.m. for a free webinar on farm-based experiential education. Bernau will discuss ways to use an array of strategies to engage your audience; build student, intern and apprentice capacity; and grow the next generation of farmers.

CCOF is Hosting GLOBALG.A.P. for a Three-Day HPSS Training in Santa Cruz

Join us at the CCOF headquarters in Santa Cruz to hear from the technical experts at GLOBALG.A.P. about how their newly updated Harmonized Produce Safety Standard (HPSS) v1.1 helps producers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). 
 

CCOF Joins FFA for its 90th National Convention and Expo!

The CCOF Foundation has partnered with the National FFA Organization (FFA) to provide grants to high school students for organic Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects over the last four years. This year, Foundation staff member Josaphine Stevenson attended FFA’s National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana for the first time. The Convention and Expo were attended by 64,000 FFA students from throughout the nation.

CCOF Provides Organic Verification for Organic Trade Association Dinner

This year, at the Organic Trade Association’s (OTA) Expo East kick-off dinner and awards event on September 21, the entire meal will be verified organic by CCOF. OTA “strives to always offer organic food at our events,” but decided to take it a step further this year. CCOF worked with them to implement a verification process to ensure their organic menu is compliant with national standards.

CCOF Will Be at Expo Orgánico

CCOF will be at Expo Orgánico at the World Trade Center in Mexico City, Mexico from June 22 through 24, 2016.

Expo Orgánico is the largest organic trade show in Mexico, where producers from Mexico showcase their products to buyers from Europe, Canada, and the United States.

CCOF-certified Farmers Host Legislative Farm Tour in Capay Valley

Last week, CCOF hosted a farm tour for the California State Legislature to highlight the challenges and opportunities for organic agriculture. Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-CA-04) and legislative staff joined Paul Underhill at Terra Firma Farm and Thaddeus Barsotti at Capay Organic Farm. While the tour highlighted the multiple environmental and economic benefits of organic agriculture, it also clearly demonstrated the immense regulatory pressures organic farmers are struggling with today. 
 

CCOF’s 2016 Annual Meeting & Conference – Drafting a Blueprint for an Organic World

On February 29, over 170 organic farmers, producers, policy makers, researchers, and business leaders came together in Sacramento to discuss the future of organic at CCOF’s 2016 Annual Meeting & Conference. At the Annual Meeting, keynote speaker Nikiko Masumoto set the tone for the day with an inspiring talk about being a second generation farmer.
