CCOF's Fall 2017 NOSB Written Comments

CCOF submitted 11 written comments to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) ahead of the fall 2017 NOSB meeting.
 
NOSB is the federal advisory committee to the National Organic Program and meets twice per year to discuss organic standards. This fall, the meeting will be held in Jacksonville, Florida from October 31 through November 2, 2017.

The deadlines to register for oral comments and submit written comments to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) at their spring meeting in Denver, Colorado are quickly approaching! It is critical that members of the public submit comments on the materials and other agenda items because the discussions at this meeting will impact future organic standards and materials allowed in organic production.

NOSB Releases Meeting Materials

The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) released their meeting materials ahead of their upcoming meeting on October 24-26, 2018 in St. Paul, Minnesota. 
 
Members of the public are encouraged to submit public comments via Regulations.gov using docket number AMS-NOP-18-0029-0001 until October 4, 2018. Additionally, oral comments will be accepted in-person and through pre-meeting webinars.
 
NOSB reviews all substances on the National List every five years to determine their status in organic production.

USDA Renews Carrageenan and 16 Substances to National List

USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced the renewal of 17 substances to the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List) as part of the 2018 Sunset Review process. Notably, USDA renewed carrageenan to the National List, which the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) had recommended for removal.
