Real Organic Project Virtual Symposium to Feature Over 60 Leading Voices in Sustainable Farming

The Real Organic Project celebrates nearly 500 farms nationwide and is expanding its educational efforts this winter by inviting farmers and students to attend their Virtual Symposium each Sunday in January from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. PST at a reduced rate, or to view the recorded sessions for free. The 2021 symposium, titled “Can Real Organic Farming Be Saved?” features over 60 leading voices in sustainable agriculture and food, including Al Gore, Vandana Shiva, Leah Penniman, Paul Hawkin, Chanowk Yisrael, JM Fortier, Elliot Coleman, and Dan Barber.

Friends of Butte Creek presents the online Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Friday, November 20. Watch beautiful and educational films from the comfort of your home while supporting salmon and their habitat. All donations support Friends of Butte Creek’s restoration efforts on Butte Creek, as well as the water rights endowment for the salmon. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., and your admission to watch the films is good through Thursday, November 26. Visit Friends of Butte Creek for film summaries and information on tickets.

Regional Water Board Moves Forward with New Ag Order; Public Workshops Announced

The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Coast Water Board) has released a draft Agricultural Order 4.0 to take the place of the existing order, which expires January 31, 2021.

The Central Coast Water Board will hold three virtual workshops on June 2, June 3, and June 4 to explain the new Agricultural Order, review its monitoring and reporting requirements, and provide information about the draft environmental impact report. Links to join each workshop are listed below.
