History Five generations of descendants have lived and worked the property today known as Sloan Winters Mountain Orchard and Garden (LLC). John Antone Winters, a german immigrant, purchased the property about 1902 and owned and operated a lumber mill and hotel. A few years later he built six homes to better accommodate the community. Farm animals were raised and crops and orchards were planted on the beautiful Camino property. Fourth generation great grandson Thomas David Sloan at age 13 left the area with his parents and siblings for his Dad’s engineering career in Sacramento. Tom, fondly remembers the family team work in maintaining and harvesting the pears. He loved following his father and uncle and his tasks even included working in the packing shed separating the bruised pears from the other on the conveyor belt. Tom loved the fresh air, mountains and the open expanse of this Camino Property. Tom has retured to Camino after retiring from two successful careers with the United States Coast Guard for 22.5 years as a Lieutenant Commander and as an IT Systems Engineer for 28 years with the State of California. Tom and his wife Valerie believe in nutritious, organic eating and are happy to welcome the Penrod Farms Family to our property, Tom’s current focus is growing fruits trees and raising organic vegetables to promote clean nutritious delicious food, fresh from the farm to your feast!
