by Shawna Rodgers |

We recently learned a few facts from Zach Wortiska, organic seed manager for Cal-Organic. Via the Instagram story feature, CCOF Foundation Visionary supporter Cal-Organic hosts a series called In the Fields with Zach, wherein Wortiska discusses the benefits of organic agriculture, especially the nutritional benefits. For those wanting to learn more, much of this information is available and cited in the CCOF Foundation’s Roadmap to an Organic California: Benefits Report. For now, we’ll sum up some of the fun facts Wortiska and Cal-Organic share with their social media audience:

Organic carrots and organic broccoli can be harvested only a few short months after they’ve been seeded.

  • Organic beets are a “good mood food,” providing eaters with high doses of fiber, iron, and vitamin C.*
  • Organic broccoli is high in vitamin C and dietary fiber and also supports the health of bones, eyes, and the heart.*
  • Golden beets are the sweetest tasting of all of the colors of beets.
  • Beets can be cooked like carrots or served raw in salads and can support a healthy immune system.*
  • Dino kale got its nickname because of its rough, bumpy skin.
  • Low in calories and high in fiber, kale supports healthy vision and digestion.*
  • Rainbow chard is a member of the beet family!
  • Rainbow chard is high in vitamins A, C, & K, and is packed with antioxidants to support brain, bone, and blood health.*
