Earlier this year, CCOF Foundation launched the Roadmap to an Organic California project to highlight how organic farming addresses many of California’s toughest challenges. From climate change and water degradation to public health threats and struggling local economies, organic agriculture is a proven solution.
The Benefits Report presented over 300 peer-reviewed scientific studies showing how organic agriculture positively impacts the economy, society, and the environment. These studies demonstrate that organic farms are combatting climate change by building healthy soils that store carbon and protect water quality. Organic farms create strong local economies by keeping dollars recirculating in the community ,and an organic diet is healthy and free of synthetic pesticides.
CCOF is now building on the science by developing policy recommendations to expand the benefits of organic to all California communities. Our aim is to increase organic farmland in California from 4 to 10 percent by 2030. To ensure we’re grounding our policies in your experiences, we want to hear from you!
CCOF is opening an online survey to solicit feedback from organic producers and stakeholders. CCOF needs your insight on solutions to expand access to organic foods, support organic producers and processors, and support the transition to organic. The survey will remain open through the fall as we produce the forthcoming Policy Report.
The Roadmap to an Organic California is made possible by the support of Patagonia, the Clarence E. Heller Charitable Foundation, and Driscoll’s. For questions about the project and to weigh in on how to grow organic, contact roadmap@ccof.org.
