As food insecurity increases due to the coronavirus pandemic, Clif Bar has doubled its annual donation of Clif bars to families in need.
Snewsnet.com reports that Clif Bar “is doubling its previous 7 million bar donation that went to frontline health care workers and first responders and is distributing another 7 million bars to food banks and community organizations that reach U.S. counties most in need as we enter summer. Clif Bar is also opening its employee café at its headquarters (HQ) in Emeryville to make up to 450 meals per week that will be distributed to volunteers serving the Oakland Unified School District.”
It's clear from their actions that Clif Bar is committed to giving back. This announcement comes just a few months after the University of California Cooperative Extension launched an organic-focused research institute, an endeavor made possible by a $500,000 endowment from Clif Bar & Company. The University of California News reports, “Although organic is the fastest growing sector of the food economy, funding for research has lagged far behind support for conventional agriculture. Farmers interested in transitioning to organic or improving performance of their organic systems often lack the guidance they need to succeed.” CCOF celebrates the creation of the UCANR Organic Research Institute and its newly named director, Houston Wilson.
The Clif Bar Family Foundation continues to support the CCOF Foundation’s Future Organic Farmer Grant Fund at the Champion level. One hundred percent of the Clif Bar Family Foundation’s gift goes directly to students and teachers from kindergarten through college who are studying organic practices.
