This position is a year-round, Tuesday-Saturday or Wed-Sunday full time managerial staff position (40-50hrs/week).
Pay: Commensurate with experience ($21/hr-$30/hr) plus Health benefits, Dental option, 1 week paid vacation, 1 week paid tim off, possibilities for longer unpaid leave in the Winters. Up to 5 days paid sick days.
The Flower Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the production, harvest, and sales for our organic flower operation. This position works closely with the farm owners and Management Team to ensure that the farm runs smoothly. The position requires supervising 2-4 native Spanish speakers daily.
Qualifications: This position is ideal for someone who is willing to commit at least 2 years, has leadership/managerial skills, solid production experience, a demonstrated passion for flowers, and is ready to take on significant responsibility. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and organized, and has at least 2 years of relevant production experience. This means a solid knowledge of propagation and growing of a diverse assortment of flowers, harvest & post harvest handling techniques, and creative arranging experience & skill. The candidate must also be good at time management and self direction, enjoy working in a dynamic and fast paced working environment, and be able to communicate with Spanish speaking co-workers.
Responsibilities include:
- Work closely with the Managerial Team (farm owners, CSA Manager, Pack Out Manager, Crew Leader, Tractor Team, Greenhouse Manager)
- Attend regular managerial staff meetings
- Develop work plans and prioritize field work for the week in coordination with others
- Delegate & assign tasks/manage and direct the flower team in harvest and production tasks
- Help to maintain a positive team spirit and professional & safe workplace for everyone
- Ensure compliance with labor laws (breaks, access to water & bathrooms etc.)
- Monitor quality of work of those supervised & provide employee performance feedback
- Coordinate training and promotions of those supervised
- Issue verbal and written warnings when necessary in professional manner and keep the required documentation of such warnings (ex: track tardiness, document inappropriate or unprofessional behavior)
- Act as liason between the crew and owners making sure that we are informed if there are problems
- Oversee schedules and time off requests of those supervised (update the office calendar so all are informed)
- Support fellow managers and be prepared to step in and help cover for them or help them complete tasks as needed
- updating/creating sowing schedules and crop plans
- supervising and overseeing the harvest, weeding, care, and post harvest handling of all the flowers
- managing the field crew when necessary (expect this to be largely in Spanish)
- production and harvest record keeping (sowing schedules, plant out dates, field maps, any organic certified pest control product applications)
- oversee the assembly of approx. 300-400 bouquets weekly
- manage and oversee the maintenance and upkeep of flower related equipment and supplies (make sure flower sleeves, buckets, hand tools, etc get re-ordered when needed etc.)
- may be asked to lead one farmers’ market/week
