USDA’s Transitional Producer Plan is a great option for transitioning farmers seeking crop insurance

Are you considering transitioning to organic? Under the USDA organic standards land must be free of prohibited input applications for at least three years before it can be certified organic. The Transitional Producer Plan (TPP), a free tool designed by the USDA’s National Organic Program, provides recognition for your efforts to farm more sustainably during the three-year transition period. Operations seeking federal transitional crop insurance may use a Transitional Producer Plan (TPP) to document their organic management.

If you are ready to begin the TPP certification process, download the application relevant to your operation below.

Once your application is complete, please submit it to inbox@ccof.org. CCOF Certification staff will confirm receipt and begin reviewing your application. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to contact our Applicant Support team at getcertified@ccof.org. Submitting a TPP to CCOF is free, as all costs associated with the application are covered by the USDA Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP).

The TPP program will serve as an excellent introduction to the full organic certification process! After the three-year transitional window has passed, land will be eligible for certified organic status. Four to six months prior to your eligibility date, contact CCOF for an organic application and complete the regular review process to demonstrate compliance with the full set of USDA organic standards.

Submitting a TPP to CCOF is free, as all costs associated with the application are covered by the USDA Transition To Organic Partnership Program (TOPP).

Not interested in crop insurance? CCOF Certified Transitional Program may be right for you.
