CCOF Board Member Named as CDFA Deputy Secretary

CCOF-certified member Jenny Lester Moffitt of Dixon Ridge Farms has been appointed Deputy Secretary for Legislation and Special Assistant to the Secretary at the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the appointment last week. Moffitt has been managing director of Dixon Ridge Farms since 2005 and served on the CCOF Board for over two years. She previously served as an education, outreach and research specialist at the American Farmland Trust and is vice chair of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.

CCOF Board Members Join National Co-Op Grocers to Learn about Organic Production in Argentina

In May 2017, Phil LaRocca, chair of the CCOF, Inc. Board of Directors, and Allen Harthorn, chair of the CCOF Foundation Board of Trustees, participated in the National Co+Op Grocers’ tour of a cooperatively managed fair trade vineyard in La Rioja, Argentina. 
 

CCOF Bylaws Vote

To ensure that all CCOF-certified members are represented at the board of directors level, members must approve changes to the CCOF bylaws that will allow the board to establish new chapters. This fall, all certified members will have the opportunity to vote to amend CCOF’s membership bylaws accordingly. In September, members will receive ballots and materials and will have 30 days to respond. A 10 percent quorum is required to enact these revisions to the bylaws.

CCOF Calls for Immigration Reform to Protect the Agricultural Workforce

One of the greatest challenges facing organic growers today is the uncertainty and severe shortages in the agricultural workforce. For this reason, CCOF is calling on California Congressional leadership to work toward immigration reform that includes the following guiding principles: 

CCOF Certification Positions Now Available

CCOF Certification Services, LLC (CCOF) is seeking various certification staff to work in the Santa Cruz, California office. The people in these positions will work within CCOF’s rapidly expanding USDA National Organic Program and internationally accredited organic certification program. CCOF is one of the oldest and largest organic certification organizations in the U.S. and works to promote organic production through certification, education, and outreach programs.

CCOF Certification Services President Appointed to Agricultural Trade Advisory Committee

On June 26, 2014 Jake Lewin, CCOF Certification Services President, was announced as one of the seven additional members to join the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee (ATAC) for Trade in fruits and vegetables. The ATAC members were appointed by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, with the intention of ensuring the commercial and economic interests of various agricultural sectors are properly reflected in U.S. trade policies.
