USDA Disaster Relief Available in Some California Counties

Enrollment for the USDA Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+) began on September 11, 2019. More than $3 billion is available for producers affected by natural disasters in 2018 and 2019. Producers in 29 California counties are eligible for relief, including prevented planting payments for those unable to plant eligible crops in 2019.

On Saturday, July 8, the Wall Fire burned the home, packing shed, coolers, and farm equipment of The Peach Jamboree (previously known as Woodleaf Farm, one of CCOF’s long-certified farms). Bought by young farmers Danny Lazzarini and Drew Seidman in 2016, Woodleaf Farm’s transition to the next generation has been hailed as a model for other retiring organic farmers.
