California Farmers Sign Pledge Calling for International Climate Action

As California farmers and ranchers, our livelihoods—as well as the ability to feed America—depends entirely on the climate. Working close to nature, we are the first to notice shifts in weather patterns. On our land and in our harvests, we bear the brunt of floods, drought, and rising temperatures.
 
We are soil stewards who belong to a community beyond our own fields; we don’t plant for seasons but for generations. It’s with this legacy in mind that we pledge our support for the science, commitment, and goals outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement.

CCOF Board Members Join National Co-Op Grocers to Learn about Organic Production in Argentina

In May 2017, Phil LaRocca, chair of the CCOF, Inc. Board of Directors, and Allen Harthorn, chair of the CCOF Foundation Board of Trustees, participated in the National Co+Op Grocers’ tour of a cooperatively managed fair trade vineyard in La Rioja, Argentina. 
 

CCOF Certification Services President Appointed to Agricultural Trade Advisory Committee

On June 26, 2014 Jake Lewin, CCOF Certification Services President, was announced as one of the seven additional members to join the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee (ATAC) for Trade in fruits and vegetables. The ATAC members were appointed by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, with the intention of ensuring the commercial and economic interests of various agricultural sectors are properly reflected in U.S. trade policies.

International Trade Update: Japan and Korea

U.S.–Japan Equivalency Agreement Effective January 1, 2014

The U.S.–Japan Equivalency Agreement is now effective! Organic product certified in either the United States or Japan may now be sold as organic in either market. Mexico Program Update

Mexico’s organic sector continues to evolve and grow. CCOF recently attended a meeting for organic certifiers approved by the Mexican government to certify to Mexico’s organic standards (LPO). The meeting was held in Oaxaca by SENASICA/SAGARPA, the agencies that oversee the Mexican organic program. Operations enrolled in the CCOF Mexico Compliance Program should be aware of the following updates:

Open Your Business to a New World of Clients

Learn how to grow your organic business by cutting the red tape of export requirements.

CCOF is partnering with the California Centers for International Trade Development to offer comprehensive training in exporting California specialty crops.

The course, CalAgX, consists of a series of six half-day sessions and will be held at three locations, Sacramento, Clovis, and Lancaster, starting August 5 and ending September 25 (see schedule). The program is aimed at businesses new to exporting.

Sign-Ups for Direct Payments Now Open

Producers whose international sales have been negatively impacted by trade tariffs are eligible to enroll in the Market Facilitation Program (MFP), part of the Trade Mitigation Package that will provide up to $14.5 billion in direct payments to agricultural producers nationwide. 
 
Sign-ups began July 29, 2019 and will continue through December 6, 2019. Payments will be based on 2019 planted acres with some additional restrictions.
