New Funding Opportunity for Food System Leaders

by Shawna Rodgers, Donor Relations Manager |

Calling all farmers, food system leaders, and nonprofit innovators!

The Generation Regen Challenge, presented by BMO, is now open and offering significant funding to support regenerative and sustainable agriculture projects across Canada and the United States. With two hundred thousand dollars available in total funding, this opportunity is designed to help scale projects that strengthen farms, improve soil and water health, support biodiversity, and build resilient local food systems.

Eligible applicants are leaders between the ages of 18 and 35 who run a registered nonprofit, charity, or social enterprise in Canada or the United States with at least one year of operation. Funded projects may focus on local farming, soil health, crop diversity, animal welfare, water stewardship, food security, or Indigenous and cultural food systems.

While regenerative agriculture is often described as a new solution, organic farmers have been practicing these principles for decades and longer, building soil health through cover cropping, composting, mulching, crop rotation, and other time-tested practices that continue to regenerate land and support farm resilience today. Through initiatives like the Generation Regen Challenge, BMO is investing in people and ideas that strengthen communities and support a more sustainable agricultural future.

The application deadline is February 23, 2026.

BMO is a proud funder of the CCOF Foundation Organic Transition Program, which supports farmers moving toward organic practices that strengthen long term environmental and economic viability. Through education, technical assistance, and financial support, the CCOF Foundation’s programs and partners helps remove barriers to organic adoption while reinforcing proven practices that regenerate soil, protect ecosystems, and sustain farming communities. We encourage eligible organizations in our network to explore this opportunity and consider applying.

About the CCOF Foundation: The CCOF Foundation advances organic by supporting people and communities who care for the land. We unite the organic community to offer intentional education, financial support, and growth opportunities for organic professionals. By providing resources for farmers transitioning to organic, organic focused trainings and workshops, and financial assistance for producers, we help create a more prosperous and resilient world where organic is the norm and all communities have access to healthy food grown in ways that heal our planet.
