If you import or export organic products to the United States, be sure to review the latest organic HTS code classifications. The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has added 29 new organic-specific HTS codes. When an organic HTS code is available for your product, it must be used for entry into the U.S.
Review your organic product classifications to determine whether an organic-specific HTS code is available.
If an organic HTS code is available for your product:
- Exporters: Use the organic code when requesting a NOP Import Certificate.
- Importers: Use the organic HTS code with your import filing in the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). Ensure that your customs broker understands this requirement. Verify that the correct code is used on the NOP Import Certificate.
You may have already been issued NOPICs that contain old HTS codes that were effective at the time of issuance. These NOPICs remain valid and can be submitted with the required CBP filing.
