Put Summer Roses to Work with Our DIY Rosewater Video

Summer is here and roses are blooming! In less than a minute, learn how to make your own DIY rosewater with our organic edible roses recipe video.

Did you know that roses aren’t just for looking pretty? Have you heard of organic edible roses? Their delicate flavor is famous worldwide for infusing drinks, desserts, and even hearty meals like lamb stew. Dress up strawberry lemonade and summer cocktails with a subtle rose flavor, or add a few drops of honey or maple syrup and make your own floral freeze pops.

Caution: Never eat roses from florist bouquets! Non-organic commercial roses are sprayed with heavy pesticides and fungicides that don’t follow the same regulations as ingredients intended for human consumption. In a 2016 study of pesticide residues on cut flowers, roses were found to be the most heavily contaminated. In fact, some roses reach customers within 24 hours of being sprayed, while greenhouse workers wouldn’t be allowed to handle the same products without protective equipment.

That’s why it’s extra important to source organic edible roses when you’re using them as food. Plus, organic roses don’t contribute to problems like worker toxicity exposure and pesticide runoff into waterways, which are two issues plaguing the conventional cut flower industry.

If you’re not growing your own, find organic roses in our directory and support an organic farmer near you!
