ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN

Organic Markets

Our Organic Markets campaign focuses on developing organic markets, from continuing to increase demand for organic food to investing in middle-of-the-supply-chain services that make putting organic food on plates possible.

Organic Markets

Organic farmers’ and ranchers’ success ultimately depends on organic markets. We know demand for organic food continues to grow with nationwide organic food sales breaking through $60 billion in 2022. At the same time, organic farmers and ranchers cannot always access the growing organic market. Underdeveloped organic supply chains, including processing, manufacturing, aggregation, storing, transporting, and distribution services, create gaps in the pathway from farm to table.

Our Organic Markets campaign focuses on developing organic markets, from continuing to increase demand for organic food to investing in middle-of-the-supply-chain services that make putting organic food on plates possible. The Advocacy Team’s work includes:

  • We successfully advocated for California to incentivize schools to buy organic food.
  • We successfully expanded meat processing opportunities for California ranchers.
  • We are pushing California to establish a statewide organic procurement target.
  • We advocate for investment in community food hubs in California to support small, organic, and underserved farmers with aggregation and distribution.
