Canada and Mexico Sign Organic Equivalency Arrangement

by kta |

Canada and Mexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that recognizes the two organic regulatory systems as equivalent. The arrangement is the first organic equivalence that Mexico has signed with another country and may pave the way for additional equivalences in the future. Details about the arrangement can be found on the SENASICA and CFIA websites.

The arrangement is valid for one year as the two countries continue to evaluate each other’s systems. CCOF operations in Mexico enrolled in the Global Market Access (GMA) program may continue to export NOP organic products to Canada through the US/Canada equivalence arrangement with their GMA certificate. If you are a CCOF operation in Canada and are interested in beginning exports to Mexico, please contact us at

This arrangement does not apply to organic products produced in the United States.
