The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) is now receiving public comment through October 8, 2025, at 8:59 p.m. PT/ 11:59 p.m. ET. The NOSB is a federal advisory board that makes recommendations on organic standards and materials to the USDA Secretary.

What’s Being Discussed?
- About 40 materials on the National List are up for review. Most materials are recommended for relisting. However, there are a few controversial materials. If you use the following materials, we recommend you share your experience using these materials with the NOSB:
- Handler Materials:
- Calcium phosphates (monobasic, dibasic, and tribasic)
- Non-organic colors
- Non-organic cornstarch
- Non-organic glycerin
- Crop Materials:
- Fatty alcohols (C6, C8, C10, and/or C12)
- Organic research priorities
- A proposal on risk-based certification
